With the new NW 7.3 Portal coming out, there seems to be a bit of confusion around migrating applications Here’s a quick set of guidelines to follow from our portal experts.
SAP actively takes care of the migration in their own components, so the new code for 7.3 is rolled out as part of the upgrade.
This does not apply to any custom or 3rd party applications.
Some 3rd party software vendors provide new or compatible packages. Compatible packages (e.g. current versions of Click Stream, World Times and RSS Express) run on old and new portals as well, so you don’t need to worry about migration. Other packages only run either one or the other platform.
Before you upgrade to the 7.30 portal, contact all suppliers and vendors of your applications and ask for 7.3 compatibility. Keep in mind, it may take them some time to adjust their applications to the new platform, so don’t wait until you go live!
And in case you have custom applications installed (not just SAP or 3rd party), and want to upgrade your portal to 7.3, take a look at this “Migrating Portal Applications” guide from SAP.
